Sophia was born on December 6, 2013 along with one of her favorite Aunts (Amanda) and along with one of her adorable cousin.  Nicole and her daughter, Sophia came up from North Carolina for a surprise Easter visit with their Grandma. While they were here, Nicole asked me if I could take some pictures of four month old Sophia while they are here.  I, of course said YES!  What a beautiful Baby Sophia is! She was so pleasant during our shoot.  The first picture below, Sophia is wearing a sweater set that Nicole wore when she was Sophia’s age and guess who made it…Yep, Grandma! So Sweet!  Of course, it wouldn’t be a complete baby shoot be without a Steeler outfit!  Black and Gold from the start!  Below is a little sneak peak… ~Dawn

This is a shoot I’ve been wanting to do for a long time.  One that would not only be creative, but one that would give me time to actually play.  Yes, play, dream and give … Easter will be in a few hours and if you’ve read any of my other posts, you will know now that during lent, I don’t give up – I give.   This is my 2nd “give” … I’ve known Dara since she was around 3 years old when we moved next door.  I’ve watched her grow up into an amazing individual and I’ve watched her go through extreme hardships, fighting a rare cancer at the age of 14, going through her 1st kidney transplant that her mom donated.  I watched her dad; one of our very best friends, fight and loose his battle with Leukemia while she fought her battle.  Last year her life took took a turn and once again she was faced another struggle when she lost the use of her only kidney … after many months of daily dialysis she was approved for another kidney.  Both her brother and sister (Johnny & Katelyn) both tested with a match from Kate.  In January another transplant was performed, unfortunately this kidney formed a blood clot and has never fully recovered.  Dara’s back fighting her battle and again facing dialysis.

For those fortunate enough to know her, you know what an extraordinary and beautiful woman she is.   One with more strength than most of us will ever have to find within ourselves.  Being able to put a smile on someones face, and just dream, play and have fun fills my heart.

Below is a peek at our shoot…

Pittsburgh Engagement : Krista & Kevin

Kevin and Krista meet on the Southside of Pittsburgh.  She owned a home off of 22nd Street and he owned a bar off 22nd Street.

One night while on her way home … Krista  together with one of her best friends decided to stop in the local bar and listened to music from the jukebox … that night she met Kevin.     Their hearts joined and together they fell in love with not only each other,  but with the city!!

How he proposed … Kevin is a men’s college basketball coach and their first trip of the season this year was to Buffalo, NY.  Kevin told Krista that he was going to take the team to Niagara Falls and asked if she wanted to go.   She almost passed on the trip, but boy was she happy that she went.  After a short time while visiting the Falls,  Kevin went off by himself and when Krista walked over to see what he was doing he pulled out a ring and asked her to marry him right in front of the Falls.

While the two now live in Ohio, they are excited to get married in Pittsburgh and share their love of the city with all of their guest’s on June 6th.

Update … I just finished the girls pics and have added a few more to share — Bobby, your girls are adorable and I truly enjoyed spending time with them and your mom.

Last October Kimmie lost her fight with cancer.  Over the last few months prior to her passing, she and I had talked about getting shots of her with her girls.  Sadly her illness never allowed for this to happen.  During lent a lot of people give up desserts — me,  I give instead of giving up.  A few weeks ago, I contacted Aggie – Bobby’s mom and asked if there was anytime in April that I could keep my promise and photograph Kimmie’s babies.  I truly think she was watching over them today because the shoot  was amazing.

Here’s a few photo peek of what’s to come… love and giggles of sisterssisters in pinkKimmie & Bobby's girlsThey spotted my flower headpiece and wanted to try it on … couldn’t have been happier that it matched their outfits.  Ariana Olivia

Guess what snuck up on us?  It’s Prom Time!  Dawn and I were invited to shoot Moon Area’s Promenade again this year.  It’s the fourth time we’ve done the Promenade.  I really enjoy shooting this event.  We get to see the kids dressed in gowns and tuxes!  They look so grown up!  I feel really old.  But it’s still really cool! The theme this year was The Great Gatsby.  The parents did a great job with the stage.  The kids looked fabulous! Special thanks to Amy and Joan for asking us to be part of this special event.  Here’s a little peek at the Promenade… ~Bob

Last August in the mist of all the craziness we had a small kitchen fire.   Long story short — we searched all over Pittsburgh for new cabinets in a budget we could afford.  We thought there’s no way we can do this with another wedding coming up in a few months.  We actually thought we could refinish them ourselves.  Ahhh lets just say that didn’t work.   Then one evening my son-in-law, Jeff sent me a text and said “go check out Noelle Reinheimer at Budget Kitchen & Bath” — best thing was they were located only about 2 miles from us (across from Baldwin High School) …I think we actually went the next day, met with Noelle… left there with not only the kitchen of our dreams, but we were able to get granite counter-tops too!!!    ~Francine

Before…  Don’t judge — this was sooo in style when we built our house … (I added the size of our cabinets so you have an idea of what we were replacing)OldKitchenBEFORE .Tried refinishing them ourselves … that definitely didn’t work out.Attempt to refinish cabinetsAfter meeting with Noelle and coming up with the layout … my husband Bobby and I ended up totally gutting our kitchen.  You know how it is; you start with one thing, that leads to another … next thing you know you have yourself a whole new Kitchen!!    With the help of our son-in-law Jeff, we replaced our floor with 16×16 porcelain squares from Home Depot. One of our absolute favorite features is the Peninsula!!  It’s amazing how much more room our kitchen has with in and the extra storage underneath is a bonus…MyNewKitchen4_2013I was excited to receive a note from Noelle asking if I would send pics of our new kitchen … they would like to use them in their upcoming brochure which was being given out at the Home & Garden Show right here in Pittsburgh.  MyNewKitchen_2013Here it is … how cool is this … MyNewKitchen2_2013a little closer look …  MyNewKitchen3_2013If you too are looking to stay in budget … go check them out at the Home and Garden Show or at Budget Kitchen & Bath and tell them Francine sent you.

Here’s a peek at a fitness shoot I did recently for Jen.  She was looking for progress pics and was also in need of some for the “NPC Natural Ohio” competition she’ll be part of on March 29th near Cleveland.  She is 5 weeks out… For those training or challenging yourself to get fit … She started at 13.8% body fat and is currently 9.74% … this is what you call determination with a strict diet and workout regiment.

Jen wishing you all the best, so proud of you!!!  {{hugs & kisses)

Last summer, one of our Seniors, Alex had this idea about what she wanted for her Senior Session so she asked Dawn and I if we take her idea and make it happen. Three sessions later we got these…

Thanks to Candy, Alex’s Mom for the flowers. By the way, Alex is a dancer and takes a pretty good picture even when it’s 25 degrees!

With my son’s wedding just around the corner, I’ve been asked repeatedly what vendors we are using … Lately, I’ve notice that I only have been blogging our engagements and weddings, but we do so much more.  So over the upcoming months watch for more peeks at what we shoot and anything else going on in our journey in photography.

I’ve started asking my personal wedding vendors to write up a little about their business’ to share with you.  A few I’ve meet over the years while shooting weddings, but others I’ve known for what seems to be a life time and they now too are in the business.   I hope when you are planning your next event you too will consider them.

First up:  Event Designs by Missy, Inc.

Event Designs by Missy, Inc. is a one-stop-shop for event décor in Pittsburgh and surrounding areas.  Coordinating your linens, chair covers, lighting, table decor, centerpieces, candy buffet table, cookie table, drapery and more through multiple vendors can be difficult and time consuming.  Their a la carte products and services can be customized to meet the vision of any bride, host or planner.

Products and services include:

  • ·         Colorful Table Linens, Overlays, Chair Covers, Sashes, Charger Plates and Other Table Décor
  • ·         LED Up-lighting, Monograms, Centerpiece Lighting and Backdrops
  • ·         Faux Centerpieces (Silk Flowers, Branches, etc.), Mirrors and Votive Candles

  • ·         Delivery, Set-Up & Tear-Down are included with any of our servicesEvent Designs by Missy

A Note From Missy:

I’ve known Francine and her son Shawn since he and I were in Middle School together.  Growing up all of us kids would hang out at her house and jump on their trampoline every summer!!  We’ve remained friends over the years and now I’m lucky enough to help Francine, Shawn and his fiancé Laura with their wedding.

Anyone close to me can testify that I love planning events, whether it be a non-profit event, sorority mixer, prom, baby shower, bridal shower, birthday party, reunion, wedding, etc.  I enjoy paying attention to every detail and I’m good at it.

In September of 2012 I planned by own wedding, which pushed me to get serious about becoming a professional in the fun and creative world of event décor.  Ordering linens through one vendor, lighting through another, centerpieces through a third vendor and so on, I saw a great opportunity to start my own company, offering all of these elements and more from one company, making the planning process easier and less time consuming for the bride or planner.  Plus this would ensure that every detail of your event will match and look great together.  In 2013 Event Designs by Missy became incorporated and I’ve really enjoyed working on multiple Christmas parties, showers, birthday parties and weddings since then.

Please feel free to contact me today to discuss your event and schedule a free in-person consultation.

What’s a blog post without a few pics… I had Missy send me some of her work for you to see.
